I was asked recently to partner with T3 Fitness to help highlight members that have exhibited the spirit and heart of what T3 is about: Hard Work and belief in Oneself.
When I spoke with Shari to talk about her portrait session, she was apprehensive, to say the least. I heard what I hear more often than not:
"I am not photogenic"
"I hate being photographed"
"I hate pictures of me"
"This feels weird"
Let me be the first to say that it is completely normal to have those feelings. But, I also want to say that is a lie we all tend to tell ourselves. It allows us to stay inside our comfort zone and out of the spotlight.
Why? It's safe.
We stay comfortable because it keeps us safe from judgement.
Safe from doing the work.
Safe from the unknown.
But you know what?
That comfort zone can be your prison. Keeping you from experiencing that feeling of truly being alive. Keeping you from sharing your greatest gifts with the world. Amazing things can happen when you dive in and do things despite apprehension.
When Shari arrived at the studio, I knew we had just a short time together. My goal was to show her how other people see her.
A woman who is Kind.
Thoughtful.
Joyful.
Caring.
Genuine.
Mission Accomplished.
I asked her to share a few words about her experience when we were done. This is some of what she had to say:
"The picture shows a confident, pretty and happy 61 year old woman. That picture is what I want to portray every day. I am so happy and proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone."
Shari, I am so very proud of you.
Much Love,
Nichole
